Just a little update to our contributor packages! Those who contribute with package three are now able to get a custom scheme of their choosing. Just find the header you want, tell us some colours and it's yours!

For all those wanting to keep a track of character type things, we have the journal* subforum in each game. You're allowed one thread per character and it's up to you what you put in there! Go forth and have fun exploring!

*It may not be called journals in every game - it was just what it was called in Dublin.

We're Back!
So sorry this has taken a little longer than we thought, but some of the behind the scenes stuff took a little longer than we anticipated!

Just to update you on a few of the changes that we've been working on. We've been streamlining all the RP games so that our post headers look a little more slick. With that in mind all game avatars are now 300x200. This is an automatic update but if you wish to alter them a little to look a little less stretched we recommend giving that a go :)

Our nav bars have been updated as well to hopefully give them a more user friendly look both in the game and board wide. The whole board has just been given a little freshness from the feedback we've gotten from everyone. Don't forget as well that the avatar sizes for general use are 225x325 as well!

A reminder to everyone that we are approaching two weeks since our opening. As a heads up from the staff, we'd like to remind you that AI reservations last for one month, as written in our rules, and some reservations will be due to run out at this time. You don't want to lose that face you've been dreaming about!

RPG Hack
So, we have some exciting news that we've been sitting on for a while now. As you may have noticed we implemented a new style of schemes a few weeks ago that will mean old schemes will slowly be phased out over the coming weeks and re-released in this style. There is a reason for this. These new schemes are all to make way for the RPG Hack that Imzadi/Chrissie (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/member.php?u=132) has been working on porting over to us and updating for our use (with ellehwho/Ellen (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/member.php?u=7)'s help). We are so excited to streamline and innovate the way we roleplay. No more multiple accounts and easier access to your bios/retired characters! We're hoping that it will be ready to introduce you to at the end of September but we wanted you to be aware of the changes in the wind in case there are any little blips in the next few weeks.

RPG Images
To follow on from Mel's previous announcement may I please kindly ask everyone to start saving their RP images. As part of the hack you'll no longer need to hotlink your main RP image, you'll be able to upload them to a database. Once the hack goes live the whole profile format will be taken away, so save now or find some new images in anticipation. The size will still be 300x200!

Welcome Back
And we're back! We've missed you all (and seen you all lurking for a peek of whats to come) and we're glad you all now get to enjoy our refreshed look but more importantly get to see the RPG hack!

All the games now are within our RPG Database. This is a new (yet old style to some of us) way of playing games. It means no more multiple accounts, you only need one account and if you accidentally select the wrong character you can edit it so easily yourself. This hack is so user friendly but don't worry it might take a bit of getting used to. Anna has made us a really handy User Guide (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1828) and these can also be found in all the game welcome threads as well.

Thanks to the hack A Palace of Dreams (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=194)has also had a facelift. All of the games are available to play here for your crossover dreams. If however you have a character that you wish to play that isn't currently in any of the games and wouldn't fit you can submit a bio to the Cross Over (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/rpg.php?do=view&id=9) game!

We're pleased to announce that Chrissie (http://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/member.php?u=132) is coming onboard full time as our tech in residence. The RPG hack is very much her brain child and we can't thank her enough for all the work she's put in for this. We think the hack is amazing and we hope you all do too.

New Feature: The Auto-Merge
We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but along with our other updates, we’ve introduced a feature that is the “auto-merge”. Where in, if you post within 30 minutes of your first post, the two posts get merged right away. Some forums have this feature deactivated, some forums don’t. And to avoid that from happening with your posts, we’d suggest that you try a few different methods.

- You can start the thread early on and then post after so that you don’t have the auto-merge problem.
- Your posting partner can start the first thread and you can post after, which also takes away the auto-merge problem.
- Speak with a staff member who is online and might be able to backdate the post for you, so that it doesn’t interfere with the auto-merge function

If you have any questions regarding this, ask away and we’ll do our best to help you out.

It was the primary governing body for all of what is now Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary until the early 19th century. Throughout the various lands there were wizarding councils for the small magical communities. Those wizarding councils would send members to the Zaubereiministerium in Berlin. Since the early 20th century it has overseen the responsibility for regulating and enforcing the magical laws for the magical community or Germany, as well as keeping said community hidden from Muggles.

The Happy Holidays scheme has been retired until next holiday season!

All AI lists have had their monthly update. Please re-request AI's that have lapsed but please remember AI's can only be rereserved once. You can put in a bio without a character reserve.

This is to let you all know about a new rule in place for RPG characters.

After one year of a character not being in active play they will automatically be retired and their AI will be freed up. You will be PM'd and a note will be left on the character to indicate this. After retirement this character can be resubmitted once but if after an additional 3 months unplayed they will be retired once more this time permanently. Characters retired by the members own wish are not subject to this ruling.

Please note this will be the only rule added in regards to characters being forcibly retired. At no time do we plan on introducing a checks period. This rule will come into effect from June '18.

Just a heads up! For the next two weeks, and in particular the week beginning March 5th, staff activity will be reduced as three fifths of our team head off on holiday! Please be patient with all requests and bio submissions, they will be seen to just not at our usual speed!

Hey guys, as our one year anniversary is coming upon us the staff have just started to do some general housekeeping throughout the board to make sure everything is ship shape. A few things we've found we just want to bring up with you our members as a friendly reminder of our rules.

Game Avatars: Please remember that while you may have five avatars per character that only one of these currently may be a gif, the rest must be static. This is due to us hosting the pictures rather than you guys linking them. The only characters that may have two gifs are characters that are also playing in Fairy Lights.

Wish Lists: The wish lists are currently for just that, wish lists. They aren't for storing various character information. As a staff we are currently discussing alternatives to the wish lists that may best suit our members needs and we will get back to you on this.

Inactive Characters: This is just a reminder that as we are coming up to our one year any characters that you haven't used in a year, or posted at all within that year, will be up for retirement.

As always we thank you our members for actually getting us to our one year! Just remember to follow the rules, as you know we do review things and take your suggestions on board so just keep checking in here for any updates.

Hi all! Once again it seems all our staff will be away for the same period of time. As such we are making a temporary ruling that will end on October 10th

If you submit a bio you may play that character prior to bio approval. This is ONLY if you have submitted a bio for approval though. Come October 10th you will have to wait for bio approval again before you may play your characters.

Hi all! So we had a discussion amongst the staff and we’ve decided to update the rule on RPG images. Currently you are allowed to have one gif and four still images per bio. As this hasn’t been too much of a drain on our database so far we are going to change this. From now on you can have up to two gifs per bio and the rest should be still images. We know it’s something people wanted and we’ve listened!

As you know the rule for Fairy Lights is that you can use any character you already own in any fairy lights game or you can create one original character. However we’ve reviewed this and have made an alternation to the rules. You are now able to create up to FIVE original characters for any fairy lights games! As promised, there's a lot of new stuff going on in Barcelona. We thought after more than a year of being open, the game deserved a proper revamp and we've got a lot to share with you.

- We have a brand spanking new theme (https://www.winterinbohemia.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=100). The colours are lighter and the header tells you exactly what you need to know - monsters are tearing up the city constantly. Which brings us to the next thing.

- Barcelona is under attack again, but this time, it's between the humans and the vampires. And it's ugly. And it's going to get uglier. Protect your own and make sure nobody takes you down. - And where humans are involved, we need a group that doesn't care for the supernatural species of the world. Its come to our attention that in some of the games the same character alias is getting through to submission. The way the hack is set up it should mean that all characters within one game should have a unique alias: Will, William, Billy etc. It should alert you if you’re making a duplicate alias but we’re noticing a few have gotten through. Please check your own characters on the RPG character list and if they’re missing please either let us know or edit your alias accordingly. Something as simple as adding a . will make it unique or evening having your alias as a full name.

You may have all noticed that staff activity is low at the moment. We can only apologise for this but August - September is often the busiest time of year for most of us in our day jobs and because of sickness. If we can ask for you to bear with us that will be great. This does mean that requests and the such will take longer, you do not need to send us reminders as we are aware of the list of things that need to be done.

That being said there will be a rule amendment between September 20th - October 8th in which characters can be played once submitted. The admin team are on holiday during this period.

We wanted to do something different this year. We love you guys and we hope that you feel like we have a little community that support your wins and who you can turn to when it's tough. Life can be hard. We all know that. This time of year can be harder for some. Below you will find five tasks, two of which will benefit your local community, all which we hope will benefit you.

The Scavenger Hunt 2019 will take place over December, 02-12-2019/01-01-2020. You can submit photos, videos or a few words per task via instagram DM, tagging us in a story or post or by PMing the Lady Penelope account.

- Donate canned goods from the back of your cupboard/an old coat/blankets to pet shelter/time to charity.
- Your mission: write a letter to someone special to you telling them how they have changed your life for the better. Send it/give it to them.
- What does it look like in your mind? Write, take a photo or make a video of what best represents your mind.
- Share with us a song or book that changed you. Tell us why, if you feel like it.
- Pay it forward! Or, a random act of kindness. You choose.


All entrants will be added to an online generator and announced on 03/01/20 here and on our instagram.

When we opened WiB, running a book club sounded like a really cool idea. In reality, we found it a challenge to pull off and maintain. While we love the concept, we've made the decision to retire it. All our past discussions and threads can now be found in the archives for your reference.

Instead, we've added a 'Currently Reading' thread into the Throne Room of the Winter Court! Book discussion threads can also be added into the Court Theatre for more specific discussions and potential spoilers you wish to cover.

Additionally, we've also released the special Book Club scheme for general use around the board!

So go, read, explore and throw your recommendations around! This book club is going underground.

The last couple of years have been many different kinds of challenging from all of us, and because of that, the staff at WiB paused our character retirement processes in January 2021 to make life a little easier.

We've decided it's time for a bit of a refresher for 2022 however, and as such, we will soon be doing some spring cleaning of character lists. Any characters who have not been posted since 1 January 2021 will be getting retired.

But don't panic! This isn't happening immediately. You have until 31 March 2022 to assess your character lists and get your affairs in order. For some characters, this may mean they need posts or plots. For others, maybe it's a case of having more characters than time in your life to handle them, characters you no longer need, or characters who quite rudely won't talk to you any more and need some time out. Take the time to figure out what you need to do to be able to maximise the quality of stories you get to tell.

If you decide there are some you'd like to retire, by all means hit that 'Retire' button ahead of time. If you need scene partners or plot partners, hit up the relevant plotting threads on the board or on Discord, and team up to get some action going. Let's get some exciting stories going for 2022!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like for two people to look a lot alike and it be a total coincidence? Have you ever been told you have a doppelganger somewhere? Are you unconvinced that Katy Perry isn’t a character Zooey Deschanel has been playing for years? Well, this might be good news for you.

We’re doing away with AI lists. Before you ask us if we have gone a bit bananas, there’s a reason for this. AI lists are a specific type of maintenance that we hold ourselves to with the seemingly righteous mission of avoiding lookalikes. However, even in real life, people who never meet might look alike. AI claims can also be a huge hindrance to being comfortable with letting go of or claiming a new character solely because that person belongs to someone else or that person is already taken.

What we hope to achieve with this is a bit more comfort in communicating with others who you’re claiming for a character, but also, allowing you to let your concepts come to life however you see fit. So feel free to bring back that legacy character that happens to look like that other character! Open your mind to the possibilities. But, just so you're aware, if we get submissions for five Chris Hemsworth characters in the same game, we’re probably still going to notice and have questions. ;) Unless they're for a quintuplets plot. If that's the case, crack on.

We're trusting you all to talk with each other like adults and try to account for existing characters. If you think your concept may be similar to someone else's or aren't sure, drop your idea into a plotting thread or into the Discord. We would say that we expect everyone to be respectful and courteous to see that conversation through, but we know you all will be kind to one another and discuss when an overlap occurs. With that in mind, we will monitor to see if this policy needs to be revisited and we're always open to hearing from you all for feedback.
